Majdanek was a German concentration and extermination camp operated from October 1941 to July 1944, captured nearly intact remains the best preserved evidence of Nazi crimes. Lublin received a city charter in 1317 but people settled there in early Middle Ages. During the 16th century the noble parliaments were held few times, one of them proclaimed the Union of Lublin, which officialy united Poland and Lithuania.
